I went ahead and cleared up some of the text. I changed the font color to white for a cleaner sharper look. I changed the color of the hot pink charts to white. I feel it is easier to read. I added the same introduction slide to the end of the presentation to spiral back to my main point. I liked the idea of adding a cloud picture to the presentation to give me some time to talk with my audiance members.

Chapter 7 Images

Finding the rights images in a presentation can be a challenge. I have had a difficult time finding real images that support my presentation. When I finally do find a good image, of course, it is for sale. Never in a million years did I ever imagine that I would be paying for a picture. Until, I learned about copyright in this course.  I love the idea of giving my students cameras and letting them create images I could use for free. We need to decrease the amount of words and add visuals in our presentations. I have sketched out a plan on how to use more technology presentations to teach difficult objectives. I was a little confused about what size to make the images. I think images that are as big as the screen can be powerful. Sometimes I have a hard time deciding where to place images and words to make it more appealing for the audience. When looking for images, I know that I must use images that are colorful. I think every kind of learner can benefit from colorful images.

Chapter 6 Harnessing Humor

It’s true! Humor in the classroom is beneficial. I can honestly say that my students crack me up! I use humor in the classroom spontaneously. It comes to me in that moment of teaching. They think it is even funnier when I’m the only one laughing at my jokes. Students learn from humor and I need to start using more funny ways to introduce a concept. I just have to remember to make the humor related to the concept I am trying to teach. I enjoyed that story about the second grade teacher giving the spelling test. I could relate, I taught first grade for three years and gave tons of spelling test! We should all take the advice from the chapter, which is to teach these presentation skills to our students. I plan on incorporating the camera activity into my classroom. We are working on idioms and I am going to have student act out an idiom and then take a picture of it; we are then going to transfer it onto a power-point presentation.

Chapter 5 Making Connections

This chapter reminded me of a learning incident in elementary school. It was fourth grade year and my teacher taught me about the fifty states. She used a map that had Alaska in the bottom right corner of the map. There was Alaska sitting in the middle of the ocean. For years, I believed Alaska was an Island! Why hadn't my teacher used a map with Alaska in its correct location? Google maps of United States Maps and you will see what I'm talking about. We have to be careful when we choose images to use in our presentations. According to the reading, we make connections to real life situations. We have to tap into what is trendy and incorporate into our presentations. My students had the vocabulary word "Display" last week. They struggled to comprehend what it meant. Until, one student said, "Hey just like "Cake Boss", he creates displays using cakes" and then it was like a light bulb lit up. We must start to use the world to teach. I love Wordle! I have taught 4 students how to use wordle. In turn, those 4 students are going to train another 4 students and so on, until everyone knows how to use wordle. I’m amazed on how much they enjoy taking over and being the teacher. I enjoyed the author’s advice on using and giving away small items during presentations. You know us all love freebies, especially when we have to sit and watch for a while.  His story about Kenny G was true, you would make quite an entrance and at the same time you are incorporating humor. Imagine hearing some of the things an audience member says before a presentation. We have all been there! lol

I went ahead and gave it a modern introduction slide. I created a wordle to give it that attention grabbing design. I went ahead and added some more images so that my audiance could relate to the pictures. I cleaned up the extra words and made sure the font was appropraite. I feel that some of the pictures incoporate humor and are very telling.

Chapter 4 Ringing Chimes

You must capture the hearts of your audiance. My favorite part of this chapter was the Susan Boyle video. I had never seen the video before and I found it to be very motivational. I didn't want to believe the reaction of the audiance because I was shocked at the laughter and the rolling of the eyes. Everybody in that room judged her on her appereance. I was so happy to see her blow them away. I cried as I watch because I felt relieved that she was able to prove them wrong. I love the fact that it made you feel something, even if it was sadness or regret. I think some people actually realized how judgemental they were before they heard her voice. You must capture the feelings and emotions of your targeted audiance so that you can have a successful presentation.

Chapter 3 Celebrating Presenters

I thought it was intresting to read about the different types of presenters. I can see how combining them all creates a super presenter. I can identify myself with the entertainer presenter, I really enjoy making people laugh during my presentations. All of us enjoy that presentation that your are dying to see. I myself enjoy Dr. Ramirez's presentations, she works with teachers in my district and I have learned so much from them. She incorporates all of Steve Jobs tips. I need to take the tips Steve Jobs offers into real consideration. You have to be prepared and enjoy what you present. Appearance takes an important role during presentations, I must now remember that my body language "speaks" to the audiance as well. I now realize that I have to use catchy,risky titles in order to grasp the audiances attention. Pictures speak louder than words.

Chapter 2- Creating Slides and Handouts

The handout should enhance your presentation while giving your audience key information you covered. You want to make the handout quick and to the point. Avoid tons of pages and give your audience one sheet with access to the power-point online. It is best to organize your handout in a double column view so it is easy to follow along during the presentation. The handout should be a guide your audience uses during the presentation. The handout is a place where your audience can highlight useful information they want to review at a later point of time. The chapter made a very good point. Images and pictures allow us to make connections to our own lives. Your handouts should also include strong images from your presentation and an area with additional resources. The last presentation I attended was awful. The presenter had a PowerPoint with sixty slides filled with text the presenter was reading verbatim. The handout was just the PowerPoint all over again and it was way too small to read. I actually saw one lady using a hand lens to see it. All the handout did was confirm, that I was not going to enjoy the presentation. I was in for it. I sat there tortured for six hours. Luckily, I took my book as back-up. The more I read the more I realized how the presentation had gone against everything I read and have learned.

Chapter 1 Tweaking Presentations Reflection

Wow! These first chapters really made me reconsider my approach to creating power-point presentation. It is time to let the templates go and let creativity awaken.

Who knew the color of your presentation affects the attention of your audience. Yellow and blue seem to be the color of choice. The color green gives a calming sensation to your presentation, while red and green combined is disastrous.

Presenters need to prepare the room where the presentation is going to take place. Making sure your presentation looks good when projected can save you a lot of heart-ache.

The amount of words on a slide, typeface, and images play a key role in the success of your presentation. Use minimal words and powerful images to engage your audience. Using all capital letters is discouraged because it makes reading the slides harder. Using lowercase letters is eye appealing and easier to read. Choose fonts like Georgia, Arial, and Verdana.

PowerPoint slides should not be full pages of text and should be easy to read but not by you. The days of reading PowerPoint presentations verbatim are over!

My Expereince with Creating a Copyright Power-Point

Hello,

My experience with creating a power point about copyright laws was both challenging and informative. After, reading through tons of articles and reviewing Internet sites and links, I became familiar with copyright laws. I learned that copyright laws are very confusing and it took me several attempts to read an article and actual comprehend it. I can't say I am a pro at copyright laws yet, but I am sure, I am more educated then I was about the topic before. How was your experience with this assignment?
